The FIFA Linesman[1] was released in 1998 as part of the Soccer sub-theme of the Sports line of sets. This minifigure is in new condition and is located in 1998 | Box 03 as figure spo-soc-1998-02. This figure can be found on BrickLink and is listed as soc112s.
History
In association football the Linesman is responsible for assisting in the enforcement of the Laws of the Game during a match.
At the time of these figures release, the term Linesman or Lineswoman was still in use. However today the title has been replaced with the gender neutral term of Assistant Referee[2].
At most levels of play there are two Assistant Referees one assigned to opposite touchlines of the pitch. Their job generally consists of judging whether the ball has left the field of play. Their position on the "lines" of the field is the origin of the title "Linesman". The Linesman would also use different colors of flags to communicate calls to the Referee as well as the reporters and commentators watching the game.[3]
The Linesman has short black hair, and wears a green collar shirt with a white decal of a flag on the left breast.
This figure was pulled from a sealed copy of set 3303 | Goals and Linesmen and the stickers freshly applied by The Collector in 2021.
